Happy New Year!
2019 marks KCT’s FIVE year anniversary – can’t believe where the time has gone! And we have some exciting plans for this year and the next…
We will be holding our read-through for our 2019 play on Monday 14 January at The Hub in The Horsebridge Arts Centre from 7pm. Those of you interested in taking part in this production, whether it be as an actor, stage crew, costume, sound, lighting, front of house, production etc would be most welcome. As most of you are aware, KCT member and local playwright Stephen Condor has written this new piece for us – a dark observational comedy set at a garden party. Casting will take place after the read-through and then rehearsals will commence Monday 28 January at The Hub and then every Monday from then on until June, when the production takes place. As usual, there will be 2-3 Sunday rehearsals at Whitstable Labour Club as well at end of May/early June. Production dates are as follows:-
Whitstable Castle Tea Gardens: Saturday 15 June, Matinee at 2.30pm and Evening at 6.30pm
The Arden Theatre Faversham: Wednesday 19-Saturday 22 June, Matinee at 2.30pm and Evenings at 7.30pm (Monday is get-in/tech and Tuesday is Dress)
WhitLit (Whitstable Literary Festival)
We are once again aiming to take part in WhitLit this year – 11 & 12 May. Their theme for 2019 is Churchill. I will be looking at doing an event for them on one of the days.
Whitstable Harbour Day
Again, as of the last few years we will be providing a children’s play for Harbour Day on Saturday 10 August. Let me know if you are interested – this is always fun! I have no idea what we will do yet but as previously it will have a nautical theme!
Although we usually run our 10 week workshop course annually in the Autumn, I will not be running them in 2019. Instead, I will be running the course in the Spring 2020, Feb-Mar time. The reason for this is simple. I would like to move our main production in 2020 to the late Summer/Autumn. I believe that audiences are more receptive to attending theatre in the Autumn season than at the height of Summer. If we do a production that leans itself to the open air, it will take place September/October time and if not it will take place October/November.
A brand new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ wonderful ‘A Christmas Carol’ in the Autumn.
Membership is £100 per year which includes the opportunity to participate in our productions, events and activities plus the 10 week workshop. NB. If you are not a member, you can attend the workshops individually £10 each) or as a course (£100), so therefore it is more favourable for you to become a full member for that year!
Please do come along to our read through for the 2019 play on Monday and I hope you will join us for what promises to be an enjoyable and rewarding year.
